A mainstay of galactic warfare, battle droids serve in the frontline forces of both the Republic and the Empire. Although generally held to be less effective overall than organic troops, these droids still offer many advantages. They never retreat, never question orders, and can carry more firepower than ordinary soldiers. Battle droids can also fight in poisonous atmospheres and other conditions biological beings cannot survive in. Most are not particularly intelligent, though smarter “elite” models are sometimes constructed to carry out special assignments.
